Voicemail to Text on Samsung Galaxy

Galaxy phones ship with two possible voicemail apps, and which one you have decides where the transcription switch is.

Which app do you have?

Open the Phone app and tap Voicemail at the bottom. A list with Samsung's look (blue accents, "Visual Voicemail" in the header) means the Samsung Visual Voicemail app. A Google-style list with a play bar means the Google Phone integration. If tapping Voicemail dials a number instead, Visual Voicemail isn't set up at all — skip to the last section.

Samsung Visual Voicemail

1. In the voicemail inbox tap ⋮ → Settings.
2. Look for Voicemail to Text, Transcription or Premium Visual Voicemail (the wording is your carrier's). Turn it on; Verizon and some prepaid brands charge a small monthly fee here.
3. Transcripts appear under each new message. To save a recording: open the message → ⋮ → Save — it lands in My Files › Audio as .amr or .3gp.

Google Phone app on a Galaxy

Phone app → ⋮ → Settings → Voicemail → turn on Visual voicemail and Voicemail transcription. Same as any Android — the Android guide has the carrier table.

Bixby Text Call

Newer Galaxy phones (One UI 5.1+) also have Bixby Text Call: Phone → ⋮ → Settings → Bixby Text Call. It transcribes live calls you answer with Bixby, not recorded voicemails — useful when you can't pick up but want to read what the caller says in real time.

Voicemail tab just dials a number?

Visual Voicemail was never provisioned. On Samsung: Phone → ⋮ → Settings → Voicemail → Visual Voicemail → On. If there's no such toggle, install your carrier's Visual Voicemail app from the Play Store or ask the carrier to enable it — it's a plan feature, not a phone feature.
